Timothy and Melvin’s new home

Timothy and Melvin’s new home

There was an older woman who lived in an old thatched house at the edge of the forest. The house was too big for one person to live in, so she rented the attic to a young woman. This way, she is not alone, and the young woman can help her go to the market and take care of the garden.

As winter approaches, the young woman works in the garden every day. She raked fallen leaves into a big pile, trimmed bushes, and swept paths.

In one of the large piles of leaves, two small mice were hiding quite discreetly. It’s cosy and warm among the many leaves and branches. At this time of year, all animals are looking for safe and warm winter homes.

One day, the girl went out to the garden and forgot to close the door to the house. One of the little mice, named Timothy, ran in and out of the hallway as fast as the wind. He quickly realized he was in the middle of the older woman’s kitchen.

It smells like freshly baked bread. Crumbs and even old apple peels were scattered all over the floor. The older woman’s eyesight was poor, so she didn’t even notice when she dropped something. For Timothy, it was a party. I want to stay here forever.

The second mouse, named Melvin, ran up the stairs to the attic where the young girl lived. Melvin sniffed from room to room but found not a single crumb.

The young woman is very tidy and always cleans the floor until not a single stain remains.

“Downstairs, there is a delicious smell of bread,” Melvin thought.

He was about to run through the apartment and back down the stairs when the young woman returned from the garden. She closed the apartment door behind her, locking Melvin in.

“Oh my god,” Melvin thought. “What will I do now?”

He quickly found a hiding place behind a bookshelf, where he stayed all night with a rumbling stomach. Early the next morning, when Melvin could hardly bear the hunger any longer, he crawled out of his hiding place.

At the same time, the young girl went out the door. When she saw Melvin, she screamed.

“Sorry!”

Melvin was equally scared and ran as fast as he could down the stairs through the narrow gap in the door. Trembling and having difficulty breathing, he stood in front of the house and looked for a gap to squeeze through.

Outside, he tried to calm down from the shock. Timothy noticed and rushed to comfort his friend.

After a warm greeting, they ran into the kitchen together, and Timothy showed Melvin all the leftovers on the floor. They prepared a delicious feast.

Timothy was quite proud to introduce such a perfect place to his friend. They decided to spend the winter there together. It’s warm, cosy, and best of all, there’s plenty to eat.

When the older woman woke up in the morning to prepare tea in the kitchen, she noticed none of the excitement of that night, and they lived together happily in the old cottage all winter.
