The story of Jeffrey the Seagull
Every day, whether the weather is good or bad, ships large and small pass through a narrow waterway along the rocky coastal landscape. The old lighthouse guided them, ensuring visibility even at night and during heavy storms.
Jeffrey the seagull loves spending time at the beach. There, he watched ships come and go, dreaming of the adventures of seafarers.
One day, while eating a lugworm, Jeffrey was startled out of his dream by a loud whistle.
He flew toward the harbour, where he could see many large ships crowding the narrow waterway. It was pure chaos!
Jeffrey scratched his head with his wing. No one knew the harbour as well as he did, and there had never been such chaos here. After all, lighthouses always help bring ships into safe harbours.
Then, everything became clear to him. The light in the lighthouse is definitely not working!
Bad weather was forecast for that afternoon and the next few days. Jeffrey watched as thick fog enveloped the harbour and rain began to pour down. Large ships are dangerously close to shore and are now struggling to be seen.
Jeffrey thought about how he could help. He has ideas. He took a small lantern and tied it around his neck. He then flew into the harbour.
The waves got bigger and bigger, and Jeffrey could barely see the length of a beak in front of him. But he is not afraid. He knew he was the only one who could help right now. No one studied the lighthouse signals as long and carefully as he did.
As the horn blared and the smell of engine oil became stronger, Jeffrey knew he had reached the first ship.
He saw a large red wall looming before him. He had never been so close to a ship before. He changed direction and flew upward.
He landed on the ship’s railing to get his bearings. The sky shook terribly, and the storm was so strong that he had to hold on to the railing to keep from being blown away.
He carefully waddled over the rusty iron bar. He wanted to see where the front of the ship was. Finally, he turned on the lantern and flew onto the bridge.
The rays of light penetrated the thick fog. His fur was wet and heavy, but he didn’t mind. Jeffrey likes stormy seas.
When he saw a large glass panel in front of him, he knew he had found the place where the captain usually sat. Captains steered these giant blocks of steel across the ocean using lighthouses for navigation.
Jeffrey moved the lantern up and down when he saw a bearded older man wearing a blue cap looking through the thick glass. He wondered how long this captain had been on this ship.
The captain saw Jeffrey and seemed quite surprised. He pinched himself to make sure he hadn’t fallen asleep and began dreaming of a seagull with a lantern around its neck.
But it is true. In front of him, a wet seagull was flying up and down, eagerly swinging a yellow lantern to the west.
“Is that bird really trying to show me the way?” the captain asked his officer.
The latter looked at him strangely and replied, “This seagull may be the only creature that can help us get out of this storm alive.”
Jeffrey is increasingly tired. His wings became heavy as the storm raged.
“What are they waiting for?” he thought. “I can’t fly in place any longer!”
Suddenly, the train blew its horn, and the engine roared louder. It buzzed and rattled, and a large black cloud enveloped Jeffrey.
No longer able to see, he flew into the sky as fast as he could. From there, he could see the silhouette of the ship as it turned west.
“Just in time,” Jeffrey thought as he watched the ship narrowly avoid a large, sharp rock.
But there’s no time to rest. That day, there were still many ships waiting for Jeffrey’s help.
