Leo the Cat bakes cinnamon rolls
One Sunday, Cat Leo’s family invited friends to visit. Leo loves it when guests come to his house because they always play and cuddle with him.
Leo will always be the centre of attention. If you’re lucky, someone will hug you and rub your ears for hours.
That day, a sweet smell emanated from the kitchen. The family is preparing waffle dough. Leo especially loves the milk mixed into the dough. He can smell it from anywhere in the house.
Leo is very good at observing. Nothing escapes him, and today is no different. He sat down on the kitchen tile floor and closely followed the process of preparing waffles.
Of course, he always hopes that he will get some scraps. Something might spill on the floor, and he’ll lick it. But not now. Unfortunately!
He dreamed of tasting milk. But Leo’s family always feeds him at specific times. They worry that he may become too fat.
When the delicious cinnamon rolls were ready, his mother sprinkled them with powdered sugar and served them to guests. Unable to resist the sweet treats, Leo ran to each guest in turn, meowing affectionately to see if he could get them to share their waffles.
But every guest obeys the rule not to feed the cat. Sighing, he took one last breath of the delicious scent and retreated to the sofa.
That’s when he had an idea. He would wait until the next day when everyone went to work, and he had the whole kitchen to himself. Then he can do whatever he wants! That night, he had trouble sleeping because he was so excited.
The next morning, the whole family said goodbye to Leo, the cat. As usual, his mother said, “Be a good boy, have a nice day, and we’ll see you tonight!”
“Meow,” Leo replied as usual, meaning, “Of course I will.” As soon as the door closed, Leo got to work.
“I’ll have my waffles for once,” he thought to himself. Leo took an apron like his family often did and tied it around his waist.
“Here we go! First, I need a bowl, but it’s in the cupboard. I need a ladder!” He thought to himself.
“Phew, so tired!” Leo grumbled as he gathered flour, sugar, butter, eggs, milk and a pinch of salt. “It’s good that I watched very closely yesterday. They make it look so easy.”
Luckily, the waffle iron and mixer were still on the counter, all as clean and shiny as the day before. “Perfect!” Leo thought as he started mixing the dough.
He was quite proud of his results until he noticed that flour had covered the entire kitchen surface with dust. Suddenly, his nose itched. Oh no! “Ahchoo!” Leo sneezed so hard that flour stuck to his moustache, and flour covered the floor around him.
“Meow, I’ll clean it up later,” he thought. He took the mixer and started beating the dough.
“Oh my god, it splattered everywhere!” Leo was covered in powder, but he was happy to lick it off and continued diligently.
When he tasted the dough with his foot, he thought, “Meow, a little more sugar would be good.” Leo continued to taste and adjust until the dough was nice and sweet.
Now it’s time to turn on the waffle iron and cook the waffles. He used a spoon to scoop out the dough, but he was no longer sure how much to use! The dough spilled onto the table.
“Never mind that,” Leo thought to himself, “I just finished my first waffle!” It was a little burnt, but Leo ate it with gusto. And so until a few bites of waffle later, the cat clutched his stomach and doubled over in pain.
“Meow, all those waffles make my stomach hurt,” he groaned. “I need to rest a bit before cleaning.” He climbed the cat tree with the last of his strength and lay down. But he could hardly relax.
He looked at the kitchen clock and thought, “Meow, it’s almost 5 o’clock!” The family will be home soon, and he still has to clean up.
With a terrible stomach ache, he stood up, washed all the dishes in the sink and put them away. He mopped the floor angrily and swept it with his tail. But after all that, things are still difficult.
Just as he finished cleaning up, he heard the sound of the key turning in the lock and watched the front door open. His family called him as usual, and he heard his mother say in surprise: “It must smell like waffles in here…”
She goes to feed Leo, who often cannot get enough food for him. But today, he won’t eat anything. He was exhausted, and his stomach was full of sugar.
She scratched Leo behind his ears and said, “You’re so clingy. What did you do today? Are you feeling unwell, Leo? I think you should go to bed early and get some rest.”
“Meow, meow, meow,” Leo Cat quickly agreed before jumping into his basket so she couldn’t ask him any more questions.
“So close! I will never do anything like that again!” he thought as he fell asleep.
