Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Bedtime Stories For Kids – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

This is the fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This classic story is reimagined with a modern twist on the meaning of “Fair”.

Once upon a time, there was a princess named Snow White who lived in a castle with her father, the king, and her stepmother, the queen. Her father always told his daughter that she must be fair to everyone in court. “People come to this castle when they have problems,” he said. They need rulers to make fair decisions. Nothing is more important than fairness.”

The Queen, Snow White’s stepmother, knew what this meant to her husband. At the first opportunity, she rushed to her magic mirror. “Mirror, mirror, on the wall,” said the Queen. “Who is the fairest of them all?”

“Snow White is the most beautiful!” The magic mirror said.

“What?!” The Queen shouted. “No one is fairer than me! The Queen must have the best of everything – everyone knows that. What could be more fair?

“Snow White is the most beautiful!” The magic mirror repeats.

“What do you know – you are a role model!” The Queen roared. And she rushed away.

However, the Queen still felt uncomfortable. She was so upset that the Queen decided to get rid of the girl, once and for all.

“I can’t wait another day!” she declared. The queen called her servant, a hunter. “Find a reason to take Snow White deep into the forest,” she said, pointing a long finger at the servant. “Then kill her.”

The hunter was shocked! But she was the Queen and what could he do? The next day he took Snow White into the forest. When he pulled out a knife to kill her, Snow White turned around.

“Look,” she said and took something out of her pocket. “You are always good to me.” She held before him six perfect arrowheads that she had carefully shaped. “Do you like them?” she speaks. “They are for you.”

“Snow White,” said the huntsman. “I can’t do this!”

“Of course, you can have these,” Snow White said.

“I didn’t mean that,” said the servant. He knelt down. “How can I tell you this? The Queen, your stepmother, ordered me to kill you,” he said. “But I can not!”

“What did she do?” Snow White cried out in panic.

“You must run away!” said the hunter. “Far away in the forest. Currently! And never come back to the castle again!”

Snow White turned and ran into the forest as fast as she could. She ran deeper. It gradually got dark and the wolves began to howl. She tripped and her dress tore. The tall tree branches seemed to reach down to the ground to grab her. She was scratched, bleeding, and scared. But she kept running.

Then suddenly, far away, there was a light. Who lived so deep in the forest? She stepped closer. It is a small house! However, no sounds came from the house, only light from the windows.

“Hello?” She said, knocking lightly on the door. “Hello?” No answer. The door opened a little. She opened the door a little more and then walked in. “Hello, is anyone home?”

She looked around. What a mess! She had never seen a messier living room.

“This house is probably the biggest mess I’ve ever seen,” she thought. “But it’s a roof over my head tonight. Maybe if I clean up around here, I can sleep.”

While cleaning, she thought of someone she missed very much. Before her father remarried, she and a prince living in a neighboring kingdom got to know each other. They would take long walks in the royal garden, telling each other stories and laughing.

After the Queen moved to the castle, her stepmother made a new rule – no more visits. Now the Crown Prince must secretly sneak through the palace gate. He would call out to her from under the window and they could talk a bit that way. It’s not as good as long walks but it’s the best they can do.

Now that she has to escape home, will she be able to see him again?

Snow White finished cleaning the living room and then went upstairs. The second floor has seven small beds arranged in a row as if for children. Tired of cleaning, Snow White yawned and stretched out on all seven beds. Soon she was fast asleep.

Meanwhile, the Seven Dwarfs are returning home after a long day of working in the jade mines. When they opened the door, you can imagine their surprise to find their house clean!

“What kind of magic is this?” said one of the Dwarves, whose name was Doc.

“I won’t bother with magic like this anymore!” another dwarf said, smiling. His name is Dopey.

“We better check upstairs,” another Dwarf named Grumpy said. “There’s something fishy around here, that’s for sure.”

There – lying on all their beds, was a young girl sleeping soundly.

“Who are you?” all the dwarfs said at the same time.

Snow White woke up. The seven dwarfs could tell that she was as surprised as they were. Soon they were all relaxing and sharing their stories.

Snow White learned their names – Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy. She told them all about her stepmother. That her stepmother tried to convince the hunter to kill her, that the hunter released her into the woods, and that she could never return home again.

“Stay here with us,” Bashful said.

“How sweet,” Snow White said. “But if I stay at your house, I’ll have to do something for all of you.”

“You cleaned up our place,” Sneezy said.

“Keeping the house clean is easy as long as we all participate,” Snow White said. I will let everyone know what they can do and of course, I will do my part too.”

“Fair,” Happy said.

“But surely I can do something else for you,” Snow White said.

The seven dwarfs shrugged.

“Do you know how to read?” the doctor said. “We have books full of wonderful stories and would love to read them.” So everyone agrees that Snow White will teach them to read.

To celebrate their new friendship, Snow White and the seven dwarfs sang and danced the night away.

The next morning before going to work, the seven dwarfs warn Snow White that she must not open the door to anyone. After all, who knows what evil her stepmother might do? The princess nodded in agreement and the dwarfs left the house. The princess prepares the first reading. She also prepared a delicious hot meal for the Seven Dwarfs when they returned home that evening. And so the days passed.

Back at the castle, the Queen walks to her mirror. “Mirror, mirror on the wall,” she demanded. “Who is the most beautiful among them?”

“Snow White is the most beautiful!” The magic mirror said.

“Impossible!” The Queen shouted. “The girl is no longer alive!”

“Snow White lives!” The magic mirror said. And the image that appeared in the mirror was Snow White living in the seven dwarfs’ cottage.

The Queen’s face turned red with anger. She screamed, “Who does she think she is?! Snow White will not get away with this!”

At the dwarfs’ cottage the next afternoon, while the seven dwarfs were at work, there was a knock on the door.

“Who is that?” Snow White said. She remembered the Seven Dwarfs’ warning not to open the door to anyone.

“Just a poor old woman,” said a shrill voice, “selling apples.” However, it turns out to be the Evil Queen, disguised as an old woman. “It’s raining out here, honey,” her voice said through the door. “Please let me in.”

“Poor thing,” thought Snow White, “having to go door to door selling apples in the rain.” So she opened the door.

“Look at this big red apple,” said the old woman, who you now know is really the Queen in disguise. She brought the red apple close to Snow White’s face. “Lovely, honey, isn’t it?”

Snow White said: “I really want to buy your apple.” “But I don’t have money.”

The old lady said: “A pretty comb in your hair will have good business value.”

“Okay then!” Snow White said. She took the comb out of her hair and gave it to the old woman, who gave her the apple. Snow White took a big bite. Alas, the fruit was poisoned! Immediately, Snow White fell to the ground and fell asleep.

“CORRECT!” The Queen shouted, blowing into the air with her fist.

At that moment the door opened. The seven dwarfs march home after a day of work. They were truly shocked to see Snow White lying on the floor and her stepmother must have been laughing next to her!

They chase that Evil Queen out the door and into the storm. They chased her to the top of the mountain. Suddenly, lightning hit the mountain! The Queen fell and was never seen again.

But nothing could help poor Snow White. She was completely motionless in deep sleep. The seven dwarfs gently lifted her into the glass coffin. Day and night they watched over her.

One day, the Prince happened to pass by. Ever since he learned that Snow White was missing from the castle, he searched everywhere for her. Now he finally found her, but in such a state! The prince opened the glass coffin. Her face looked so fresh, even in deep sleep.

He gently took one of Snow White’s hands and kissed it. Immediately, Snow White opened her eyes! With Love’s First Kiss, the Evil Queen’s curse is gone forever. Now nothing can stop Snow White and the Prince from being together forever. They return to the Prince’s kingdom and live happily ever after.

The End
